Preparing for Arson

We are given information about what materials we have available to make pitch to burn down the nest of the kruthiks.

Here’s what we have:

  • 40 gallons of flour
    • Very low damage, but will very effectively ignite things
  • 95 gallons of pitch
    • Burns but doesn’t explode
    • Mixes into exploding tar → 2d6-5d6 damage
  • 12 gallons of shale oil
    • Explodes but does not ignite

Barrels:

  • 8 gallon barrel
    • 3x3 aoe
    • Pitch 82 lbs
    • Flour 75 lbs
  • 4 gallon barrel
    • 2x2 aoe
    • Pitch 45 lbs
    • Flour 40 lbs
  • 2 gallon keg
    • 1 square aoe but with more damage
  • 1 gallon keg
    • 1 square aoe
    • Pitch 17 lbs
    • Flour 12 lbs

Barrels are 5-15 HP.

8 gal pitch : 1 gal shale oil

  • Creates mixture that explodes, covers things in hot tar, and then burns

The barrels are well constructed and caulked with tar, so it is better not to be next to the barrel when lighting it.

Carries:

  • Lothar 90lbs
  • Armsmen 75
  • Best largest 520
  • Mule 280
  • Avg Horse 640
  • Ships 75
  • Sarras 80
  • Kerran 40
  • Calthel 50
  • Charity 40
  • Decimus 70

While we and Lothar and his men go to deal with the kruthiks, his wife and daughter will go down the mountain to make sure people are out of the mines and the inland village down to the fishing villages. This will also help get the island prepared for a full evacuation order should one come later without actually putting the entire island into panic.

Sarras compels our cultist friend to tell us if he’s aware of any additional cultists on the island that we need to track down. He says that he is not aware of any others on the island, but he’s low/peripheral enough in the cult that he cannot say that it means there isn’t anyone else, but of the major inhabited islands in the Stepstones, Grisleth is the least pleasant and least important. He has no idea where else it would be worthwhile to plant someone. (Basically: there could be someone else he isn’t aware of, but he couldn’t think where they would be.)

Our cultist friend can navigate the tunnels confidently and he knows where the lair is and the size of the lair, but he has not been within the lair because there’s no real hiding spots. The lair is dish shaped - the middle is deeper than the sides, and the sides are a little terraced.

Who’s doing what:

  • Lothar is carrying one 8 gallon barrel
  • Best Largest is carrying six 8 gallon barrels
  • We have eight 4 gallon barrels
    • 1 for each of Lothar’s 4 guardsmen
    • Ships
    • Sarras
    • Calthel
    • Decimus
  • Diligent, Charity, and Kerran are also there
  • Roemid is helping with the evacuation

Fire sources…

  • Calthel

    • 20 pitch-dipped arrows
      • 1d4 fire, -1 attack
  • Lothar
    • Longbow
    • 20 pitch-dipped arrows
  • Charity
    • Enchanted longbow
    • 20 pitch-dipped arrows

The Arson-ing

As we make our way through the tunnels there are no signs of the kruthiks, though we do see drag marks through some wetter soil to mark where the kruthiks passed not too long ago. There’s no noises or sounds at this time, though. Diligent keeps his word and guides us right up to the mouth of a larger cavern.

Ships sends his owl in to check on the inside. There are no larger kruthiks around, but there is a MASSIVE kruthik in the center of the bowl shape. There are some smaller kruthiks - some with the large one, and about five in the higher areas scattered about. At the moment we don’t see any of the bodies from earlier. The owl can’t really tell what the two young kruthiks near the large one are doing, they’re just kind of skittering around it. The other young kruthiks are standing at attention, being wary or vigilant. An owl is sneakier than they expected.
