Rdest

Rdest goes to the Trierarch to ask about her brother. She begins by asking Rdest to tell her about her brother, so Rdest talks about Iskra and how he inspired her to go to the university to become a wizard. She explains he’s a fired druid and that he’s as warm to her as his fire magic, and that he’d been gone for five years until stumbling into him on accident. She explains that horrible

When Rdest finishes, the Trierarch begins and explains that she and her brother joined the group because of the opportunity. She’d seen many battles, her brother only saw one, and he turned tail and ran. When he ran, a devil or something rose up and made a pact with her brother, and now he’s in the dungeon for desertion and devilry. The Trierarch explains that she feels her brother is in there because of her - joining the Legion was her choice and her little brother followed. Rdest disagrees: the Trierarch said what she wanted to do, and her brother followed - he wasn’t forced.

Rdest asks if the crew is important to her, and she says yes, but the crew is her crew and her brother is her brother - they’re differing kinds of important. Rdest asks if she thinks her brother wants to be saved, and the Trierarch emphatically says yes, he’s in prison. Rdest asks if she thinks her brother expects her to save him, and she says she thinks he tries to forget about her as much as she tries to forget about him. She explains that he knows she’s disappointed in him, but he was a stupid kid.

Arythas, Dia, Rohan

Arythas wakes Dia up without an issue. She goes to wake Rohan, who did promise to train with them. There’s some back and forth between the two with Rohan saying it’s not morning, that it’s still the middle of the night. Arythas watches this for a minute then rolls his eyes and heads upstairs to where they’ll be training. Dia steals his blanket and reminds him that he wanted to train with them, and Rohan makes the whiniest little bitch baby noise and gets up and pulls a shirt on. Once he’s dressed, Dia drags him upstairs and Rohan is mumbling to Taraaq that he will absolutely tell them.

Misha comes in and comments that Rohan lacks discipline and Rohan asks what is wrong with everyone.

They get started with some warm ups and running and then go into drills. There work out and he helps Dia learn technique while helping Rohan correct his. When all is done, Arythas reassures Dia because of how hard she worked and how this was more difficult for her and Rohan tries desperately to explain that it’s so clear that Arythas and Dia like each other. Dia turns cherry red and denies it and Arythas eventually comments that now is not the time or place.

Rohan eventually storms off to go back to bed, waking Rdest in the process.

Landfall

There isn’t much to do at this time, but there is a buzz of excitement around the ship - we should be making port soon, hopefully tonight! People hope they can get to a bar, or just get on some ground.

Misha spends most of his time with the soldiers and Arrai comments that he understands that the squad won’t have the most control, though he admits that Arythas does seem to have good discipline and is competent. Misha comments that he did notice Arythas training Dia and Rohan, and Arrai asks about the battle capabilities of the others. He explains that the group is chaotic and less disciplined, but quite potent: they will be able to hold themselves quite well should there be conflict.

Misha admits that it’s been a while since he’s been in military service and so he’s shaking some rust off, it’s been pretty cloak and dagger since then, and it’s different working with civvies. Arrai admits he’ll depend on Misha, which means he can depend on Arrai.

The evening falls and we approach the Nievious Mound and we see parts of it are burning. Arrai comments that there are several ways to approach this, but he opts to organize his forces and everyone here and have them take over - we don’t know what’s going on there and if they’re fighting each other

He will send us there to scout, essentially. If what is going on there is related to the Crimson Legion then we are to gather as much information as possible and report back. Misha lets the rest of the group know we have an hour until landfall at Hrimfort.

Rohan climbs up to the crow’s nest and look at the mound. He notices:

  • There are people fighting in the streets, but it isn’t organized - more like a riot
  • There are several other ships in the port, one ship is familiar: Captain Kearney’s Sea Bitch!
    • There are people on the deck
  • Fires are haphazard and not targeted, it’s not planned, the fires are more incidental

The Trierarch asks us where we would like to be dropped: we can make land, or she can get us to the Sea Bitch to start our advance. Dia suggests that we make land and we will find Kearney as we scout ahead.

Arrai stands at attention with his Legionnaires and he looks to Misha and says that he trusts him with this and believes in him, then sends us off to go as we make land. The Trierarch reassures us that they will keep the docks fire-free and safe, securing them.

The Mound

We enter the mess and find that those that are fighting are Children of Kord - they’re like valkyrie and the like, aasimar-types. We find one leaving a barbarian rage that is not currently engaged in the fight. We approach the fighter and Dia treats his wounds and does a barely okay job, but he’s currently regenerating. Rohan gives him a drink from his flask of friendship and then asks what the situation is, pretending he knows what is going on.

The being says that it’s going, that his head hurts, that everything hurts. He grabs Rohan by the collar and says that the world is ending and laughs in his face, repeating it again, then screams into the air as he lets go of Rohan’s shirt. Rohan realizes that he’s not a soldier, there is no plan, they’re just fighting and going insane.

Dia watches this and realizes that these beings have felt the death ball planet comet that is coming and they are going crazy. These beings have a battle sense and they can sense when they are about to die, and now they sense this crushing pressure on their heads - Dia thinks perhaps she can do something to help dull or relieve this sensation, but right now? These are people who know they’re about to die, so they’re just fighting because fighting to the death is the only option. - there is no fleeing. It’s possible that there is some sort of outside situation that caused this to be so acute.

Dia uses stabilize on him to draw his attention and explains that the world is not yet ending, but a fight is coming that he needs to live for. This seems to take enough of the edge off that his adrenaline goes down and he slips into sleep.

Captain Kearney

Dia explains all of this to us. Arythas suggests we find Captain Kearney and we hear her voice weakly speaking as she says she’s present. Arythas immediately helps her stand and places her so that Dia can help her with treating wounds. Dia works a fucking medical miracle and Kearney thanks her for it, making Dia blush.

Kearney explains that things got rowdy - the people started fighting, and kidnapped her new friend. Kearney came to save her, and it’s a mess. Kearney enlists us to help save her new friend. Dia explains something is exacerbating this situation and Kearney explains that she’s been here about a month. This place is as close a home as she has, a lot of sea wolves (sailing werewolves) around. Kearney explains that her friend is in a building on a lake - she doesn’t know why.

We make it to the building and Kearney comments that there were people here before, and now they’er gone. Kearney calls us her lucky charms. It slips out that there is a giant death ball planet hurtling toward us and Kearney makes the comment that “she wasn’t kidding!” and then slips inside of the building. Arythas tries to ask what that means, but she’s gone.

Misha reports back to Arrai.

We enter and the building seems to be a meat hall. There’s a person in the middle, waking up.

She speaks up and asks if Kearney is here, and then who it is that is with her. Kearney explains that her friends are here. Rdest uses read aura and notices a very heavy necromantic power around her that is just awful, even though it has nothing specifically to do with her. There is some back and forth and Chamomile manages to get everyone’s name, and then Rohan has the theory that perhaps Chamomile is the thing that is exacerbating this situation, and suggests we get her out. Rdest has a better idea: trying to cleanse her aura instead. She gets the ritual set up in a cozy cabin and puts Sadie and Chamomile inside of it, then the party heads out to deal with the Children of Kord that are approaching.
