Session Date: 08/09/2024
We return to the estate and the Baron and the parents of Almodis are sailing off to war for the season. The son Raoul remains home, as well as the staff. Raoul will have a baggage train sent out to the fjord to continue the process of emptying out the Dread One’s lair. Useful Sim will be teleporting to the continent to tell the Duchess Bellicent and Baron Gilbert what’s been going on.
To everyone (last session):
- 1584 xp
- 120 platinum
Calthel got the spellbook but it’s currently wrapped up in the even that it might be cursed. The Dread One’s spellbook is etched on the walls of the cave.
Session Start: The Group
Ioun stones were around Almodis and baby’s heads. Almodis doesn’t know the name of the baby - the Dread One referred to Almodis as the larger child, and to baby as smaller child. The stones are of sustenance and adaptation - while the stones are held they do not need to eat or breathe. Sarras asks where the stones came from, and Almodis explains that the Dread One gave them to her and she assumes to Smaller Child as well, but Smaller Child was already there when she arrived. The Dread One would speak in their heads and spent a lot of time distracted, looking at the statues that appeared to be of the Dread One’s children.
Smaller Child was too young so it had Almodis take care of Smaller Child and try to work on Smaller Child’s teaching (words, swim, etc). Smaller Child is actually very good at swimming.
Sarras turns tot he Rector and asks if there are any known missing infants, and he’s not aware of any off of the top of his head. Checking in with Vicar Bodwin, he also doesn’t know. The two do get together and review the census books together and what they do find is that if this child is from the Stepstone Isles and if they are of a family of the gentry or nobility and were being used as a tool of blackmail against the parents such as Almodis, there are only three female children of that age that is also half elven. They don’t know whether these children are human, elven, or half-elven - there’s not always both parents on record.
The Baron on Grislith has a daughter - Kara - that age. A teacher at the Navigator’s School in Compass Tor - Lady Aroch - has a daughter that age, Arista. A knight on Grislith - Ser Lothar the Red - has a daughter, Sora, that age.
Listening to Almodis’, Sarras gathers that the statues were being used as a spell focus - this makes sense, especially if the Dread One was scrying on its children. We had grabbed two of the statues - third and fourth largest statues.
Current priorities:
- Determine how safely we can reopen ports
- Determine the family of the infant found
- Best place to put Almodis for care
Sarras is concerned Second or Third Largest might be hanging out near the port. If we sailed across the straight to Drukenford, we could find amulets of things such as protect against good and evil, but for a large alarm spell we would want to turn to the Navigator’s School on Compass Tor. Not certain, but some of the instructors at the school might have low level spellcasting that can be utilized. We are currently about 40 miles to Duffholm, and 20 miles to Compass Tor.
Sarras opts to go into town to figure out what to do with regards to the port, leaving the children to the rest of the group.
Remaining in the castle:
- Rector & Vicar
- Half the knights present
Calthel, Charity, Ships
The issue of the children is discussed and Almodis perks up at the idea of going to the Navigator’s School at Compass Tor to be near her uncle Iago. Her other big concern is that she wants to be sure that someone is going to be looking after Smaller Child. Navigator’s School can take in infants, and the group ultimately decides to Smaller Child there as it will be relatively safe. We send Gwen along with the escort.
Ships, Calthel, and Charity go back to the loot cave. We will have six teamsters with us, so Calthel can definitely get water breathing for everyone, calling Ships over to have Ships help him prepare and cast water breathing.

The true name things that Ships recalls is that if he has a talisman or a true name or an aberration obsession then cast a conjuration spell that conjures that kind of creature, the creature becomes charmed by them. If you are striking deals or having them work for you, they are charmed by you (mechanically: you have advantage).
We need permission from the Duchess to embattle the estate that Charity inherited. To be politic, we should have the Marquis and Baron’s permission as well. Charity gets all the tools she will need to work on the house.
- Quarries at Compass Tor
- Cost of embattling Colhurstshire is 32,000 gp
- Quarries at Ser Nicklepenny’s mines

Bag of holding…

- Definitely across the strait to Druckenford
We go shopping! Calthel gets a bag of holding.
