A New Band Manager
The meeting with Kade Sredex comes to an end as he explains that he hopes not to repeat their current manager, Juice, with them. Everyone is excited for this.
Mechanics note:
Kade is a corpo exec so moving forward we will be using his corporate resources rather than fixer resources that Juice has.
Phoenix explains that she’s working with a difficult client that wants evidence for something, and everything she brings to them is never enough. She’s about to tell them to fuck off and move on to another case. Emerick asks if there’s anything he can do to help, and she asks if he has any leads. He offers the invention fair and she picks up a pass and thanks him for the lead.
They part ways and Emerick heads back to the warehouse with the band.
Jewel, Ryne, and then the band + Emerick
Back at the warehouse a new person arrives and Juice ushers them upstairs to the office. Ryne - who finally got that fucking shower - sees the stranger following Juice. Ryne is upset with this because he doesn’t want to talk to anyone at this time. Jewel looks Ryne up and down and Ryne asks what the fuck she’s looking at, and she awkwardly explains she’s not good at the introduction thing. Ryne takes his bad mood and moves on.
Juice takes Jewel up to his office and Ogre closes the door behind them, but doesn’t enter the office. Jewel had come looking for protection. She admits she doesn’t know much about Juice but she does know some of the band members, and if Juice can protect the band, perhaps he can protect her and her girls from the rival bands. He understands that and explains he can provide protection, but he needs assurances as this is not out of the kindness of his own heart. If she can’t pay, she will have to work for him. Jewel assures him she can pay.
Juice gives Jewel some kevlar armor because she has none at this time. Juice plays it as if he’s on the very straight and narrow and Jewel is naive enough to buy it. She thanks him for the help. The meeting ends with Juice and Ogre leaving as the band and Emerick arrive.
Jewel awkwardly stands until Charley and Alice acknowledge her and there’s an awkward introduction between her and Emerick. Emerick introduces himself and then explains that he isn’t with the band, but he is working with them and is a media. He hasn’t heard of her band Jewel and The Sunken Treasures, but he promises he’ll listen to them. Emerick gives a very brief description of the rest of the party and it’s not long before she goes out to the garage.
Jewel & Net, Crack Pipe, & Powder
Crack Pipe notices her, but Powder rushes up to introduce herself. She eventually turns the music off and Jewel explains that she knows who Net is because of Emerick. Net can tell that she’s a rocker type and he likes her style quite a bit, and she returns the compliment. Net admits that he won’t listen to her band’s music, but she isn’t offended by this. Net info dumps about the car he’s working on and explains that Mr. Steele’s dick is the new shifter, and Jewel has a lot of mixed emotions about it. Net explains that he or Crack Pipe can fix things - Net is probably more expensive but faster, Crack Pipe is definitely reliable and cheaper, but takes a little more time.
Net turns the music back on and Jewel leaves.
Jewel & Emerick
Jewel returns from the garage and goes through her socialization checklist, and then notices Emerick reading. She tries to smalltalk by asking what he’s reading - a book about the political tensions surrounding the second corporate war - and she realizes she’s very out of her depth. Emerick admits that she doesn’t have to try to take interest in this, and it’s rather clear that he’s run into this before.
To save them from this awkwardness, he offers to help with repairing any of their clothes if needed. He admits that he’s never done full construction from start to finish, but he is familiar with the process. He also admits that he’s better at hand sewing, but he does know how to use a machine. Jewel is very appreciative and admits that Pearl’s been doing her best, but she’s not particularly talented in the area. Emerick reinforces he’d gladly help them - whether that is to bring the clothes to him, or take him to the clothes, either way works for him.
Sulfur
Sulfur spends the day with his cat and taking it easy. He goes out on patrol while wearing his armorjack. He notices a kid that looks pretty sad, and then notices that she has a taser. He calls for backup and then carefully approaches the girl - keeping some distance because of the taser - and asks her what’s got her so sad.
The girl says that her parents were around here but she doesn’t know where they’ve gone, could he help her look? She starts to shuffle up to him and Sulfur tries to quickly dodge, but fails to do so as an explosion goes off on Sulfur, blinding and deafening him. It’s yet another Bozo attack!
Combat begins, and it isn’t long until the entire crew sans Jewel show up to help Sulfur take care of these clowns.
We kill two of the Bozos and then as the last one is trying to crawl away, Net approaches and presses a gun to his head, asking for a joke. The Bozo stammers out a long story joke, which makes Net scoff and smile.
Sulfur comes over to ask questions and threaten the Bozo, who ultimately bites down on a false tooth in his mouth and releases a cloud of ReTox that Net and Sulfur get hit with. Net grows addicted, while Sulfur just is under the effects. Both are euphoric.
ReTox When under primary:
- Crit on 9
- Fail on 1
- Roll 1d6 where 6 = euphoria, anything else is depression While addicted:
- Crit fail on 2 and 3 UNLESS on primary effect, then only fail on 2
Loot is split up across us all and the ReTox wears off. Sulfur goes back to normal but Net falls into depression and lays down on the ground. Emerick crouches down next to Net and starts to softly talk to him in a reassuring tone, promising that he’ll be okay, and that he can go and visit Torrent and Katchya later to get him all fixed up.
Emerick picks up the phone and it’s Phoenix. She is in the middle of a fight and Emerick promises to help her out. She sends the location and is about to explain what’s going on, but a there is the sound of gunfire and the call ends.
