Planning

We know that the Warhawks have rather formidable forces including trolls, a wooddrake, among others. They also bred trollhounds - they are canine trolls. They are beasts that can regenerate like trolls, and they sometimes carry diseases. Rather nasty business.

We discuss what we wish to do - we know that the forces will be here in the mountains for a few days. The longer we stay in place the more likely we are to be found, but we don’t need to go immediately to deal with them. Tabby comments that we need to get close enough that Mary can get to the animals, but not so close that we are discovered by the army.

Heartseekers asks if we’re sure that we don’t want them to just start murdering everyone. Bosch asks how large the army is (pretty big in terms of number of people). They comment, however, that the forces aren’t that strong - at least to them. It is forces of primarily orcs, humans, goblins, etc, and many of them are under 30 - children. Many of them are also rather cowardly, they comment. Heartseeker suggests having the hunters make the army get lost for a few hours.

Disruption

Mary

Mary sneaks into the camp and finds where the horses are corralled. She finds that they are not treated particularly poorly. Mary does remove whatever hobbles they have to contain the horses. She tells the horses that when the wolves start howling, trouble will be coming. One of the horses comments that he was not brought here for wolves, but they were here for oats!

Mary notices that the horse feed is rather low quality and there isn’t enough feed to make it to Jewel - she recognizes that the Warhawks were likely going to rob them, or make them graze. She gives the horses instructions on how to get to an area with better pastures they can graze and be safe enough in while searching for a new place to live. Mary asks squirrels and Talitha to go ahead and chew through any rope they can find, especially the hobbles for the horses.

The horses ultimately leave when the wolf howl goes off, which causes the camp start to fray as men have to go and search for the horses and try to round them up and bring them back in.

Tabby

Tabby begins to sneak around and finds that there are plenty of trollhounds. Bosch had given him some dreamtime tea to spike their food so they wind up sleeping through everything, or struggle getting up. Tabby notices that the hounds are rather ill - green pustules, nasty looking creatures, with tusks.

Faylen

Faylen stays outside of the camp and lies in wait - he knows that the horses are to be scattered and that the soldiers will likely need to round them up once they’re gone. Once they are out of the camp, he will use his magic (fear, agonizing despair) coupled with his quantum field to really scare the crap out of the men and cause them to scatter.

This action scares Mel so much that he actually abandons ship.

Bosch

Bosch sneaks into the camp and finds the flying mounts, putting a deadweight mutagen (that will give them encumbrance) into their feed so they cannot fly for a period of time.

He then looks around to find someone worth distracting. Because of the chaos Faylen is putting together, he sees Mel the drake turn into his halfling form. He doesn’t have his uniform on him - just generic woodland clothing. He’s very visibly leaving the camp. There is a hill giant also sitting there just hanging out.

Bosch lures the hill giant out of the camp up the mountain. It sees him and recognizes him, but is not intelligent enough to actually raise the alarm. Bosch sounds his wolf howl and the horses stampede, starting off the entire chain of events.

The Chaos

After the horses stampede and wake everyone up, the fey begin their work: the Heartseeker fey meld into the darkness and begin to kill the leadership of the Warhawks. Tabby asks if some of them want to take on a hill giant, and they are game for this.

Bosch had signaled and in that time the giant catches up with him and manages to hit him with his club. Bosch takes the hit, then jumps and drags the giant down the mountain with him. They land prone. The giant picks Bosch up and looks about to bite his head off, then his head is cleanly severed from his shoulders by one of the Hearteeker’s contingent.

Lady Ikbur ultimately finds Bosch and she’s upset to see him. She asks if he liked her prison for him, and he says yes, but it’s broken now. She says she is going to kill him, and his friends, and the squirrel too. Bosch drops into a fighting stance and then runs toward the team. She swipes at Bosch and then gives chase. Bosch tries to drink a healing potion but drops it as he runs. She pulls out a hound whistle and blows it so that the trollhounds follow - though they are very sluggish.

The Showdown

Bosch makes it to the party and we are all here. She says she’s upset because she just wants to see the Commonwealth safe. She is upset that we set the fey against her and she’s not pleased that we are apparently friends with the fey. She had thought we were part of the solution, but she sees now that we are definitely part of the problem. She’s done trying to get us to her cause. She asks if we surrender or if she’s going to have to clean us off her axe. Bosch comments that it’s obvious: she already got her axe dirty.

Tabby suggests a third alternative: we end this here and now. He draws his weapon. She agrees that it ends here. Combat begins.

Combat:

  • Trollhounds
    • They are rather weak
    • Regeneration stopped by acid/fire
