Omen & Net (A Little After Midnight)

Omen and Net wrap up their meeting with Miranda Vasquez. She stresses the importance of not breathing a word about the information about the video and what we find to the public or else their deal is off. She says that she will be in touch, but they otherwise don’t know each other.

Net asks if Omen knows Miranda, and Omen explains that they just met tonight. Net thinks it’s a little odd to go to the police for this kind of thing, and Omen says it’s leverage.

Omen wants to go investigate the coordinates immediately, and Net makes a point to say that we do have a netrunner that can jack into the CCTV and get the original footage. Net says that he’s not so good at sneaking around but Omen should really take a netrunner.

Net starts asking if Omen knows anyone trying to get rid of a car, then stops the conversation to check to see if Miranda left a bug anywhere - she hadn’t. Net asks about the car, and Omen asks if he wants one of the cars outside, and Net says that he just wants the most dog shit beaters there is. Omen offers to steal a car outside, and Net says not to steal a car for him because he could just do that.

They leave and make it back home safe without any incident. Net retires to home.

Omen (After the Interview)

Omen gathers his things and then goes and wakes his cousin up to go investigate the site while it’s at night and still dark. He wants to investigate the coordinate that Emerick had given him. They meet at the site, meeting up a ways away from the actual location. They walk in the last mile together so that they’re not driving up right on the building.

The building is in a hilly area, and they crest a hill and get a very good view of the place in question. There isn’t much there, but there’s a shack just sitting in the middle of the badlands. It doesn’t look abandoned, but it doesn’t look pristine. It looks lived in and poorly maintained, but not derelict.

Omen can see that there is a light trail that leads to the property, but it’s not something that is used often. The most common method of transportation is not necessarily a car, or, if it is, it’s not frequent. As far as he can tell (nat 1 roll moment), there are no cameras, or he doesn’t see any from where he’s at. He does notice that there isn’t much to attach cameras to on this shack.

Omen decides to get closer to examine the shack. He gets as close as he can. He tries to look for any cameras and isn’t seeing anything this close, so he goes up to the door to try to take a peek. He cracks the door open about 1/4” and he can tell that there is no light inside. Omen opens the door enough to peek in, and he manages to jump back as a trap goes off: an armor penetrating charge was rigged to go off when the door opened. The door got blown off of its hinges and Omen was basically dragged by the door, taking a torn muscle injury to the arm opening the door.

He was blown back about 10’ or so, and he hears an alarm sounding inside the room. As Omen is turning to run, he gets up and stumbles, and he looks behind him to see that there was a turret encasement hidden in the ground around the shack, and he tripped over one of the turrets emerging from the ground. Three more turrets are also raising out of the ground. Omen tells his cousin to get the car, and she looks at him like he’s insane.

He pulls a smoke grenade out of his bag and the turrets fire at him - he manages to dodge most of it, getting clipped by a few bullets. He drops his smoke grenade and then turns and books it for the hill. As he crests the top, he can hear the faint engines of an AV. He can see the lights as it searches for him and he knows it’ll be on him with 6 or so seconds. He continues to run and hides himself in some foliage as the AV reaches the shack and hovers over it, not quite ready to pull out the search lights.

Omen tries to stealth and continue, and the AV spots him immediately.

One of the side panels opens up and he can see that someone is there, and they’re fucking huge. He hears a gun shot, and he manages to dodge. He keeps trying to run and, eventually, an aimed shot finds its mark and hits Omen and breaks his leg. Omen manages to fix his torn arm and he still hears some more gunshots of them chasing down Omen’s cousin.

The AV - clearly custom - touches down and Mr. Steele walks out of the AV and up to Omen. One of his four arms reconstructs and the sniper rifle retreats into his arm. He looks at Omen and comments that he wasn’t expecting to have a visitor today. He says that this will make for a great story. He has an experiment he wants to run on Omen, and his friends are going to be the guinea pigs in this maze. He lifts another arm up and a shotgun comes out of it and he aims it at Omen. Steele asks if he has any last words, and Omen says nothing. The gun fires and it doesn’t kill Omen - a neurotoxin was released and causes his body to seize up and then relax until he has no control over his body, though he doesn’t lose consciousness.

Mr. Steele picks Omen up and carries him into the AV and the fly back to the shack and Omen can hear this loud noise coming from the area behind the shack, further away. The ground begins to tremble and a hangar opens up in the ground and the AV descends into the hangar. When they land, the ceiling closes and Omen realizes he’s now in a rather elaborate bunker. As Omen looks around (as much as he can), he notices another person: the pilot, Mr. Steele, and a third person that is actually of note.

Mr. Steele speaks to the third person and asks them to hack into their Agent and send out a distress call to Omen’s contacts. They look for any interface ports and can’t do anything, and tells Mr. Steele she can’t hack the Agent to do what he wants. She explains that they’ll have to make do with what they have here right now and try to make him cooperate.

Omen sends his exact coordinates and a message saying he’s been taken by Mr. Steele and explains that this is a lot bigger than he thought it was. As he’s sending the message out, he feels this sense of dread: he sees the buffering icon on his text, and it just keeps spinning. He eventually gets a message send failure error and Omen realizes that he is now stuck here without any communication to the outside.
