Session Date: 10/28/2024
The Morning
We return back to the room that we were given by Axamonar and we realize that this was a room that was at one time Axamonar’s personal room - there’s a room as expected, a library next to a gym, a station to craft magical items, etc. There are motivational posters with Axamonar featured in all of them.
We receive a copy of The Jewel Herald and The Metropolitan Observer newspapers in the morning. The Metropolitan Observer has us on the front page with a sensationalized headline about destruction in the streets, the picture depicting the fruit cart seller showing a trampled apple. Of note, Mary is Marythedruid in the Metropolitan Observer. The Jewel Herald has a story about adventurers trying to be helpful, but such article is not on the front page.
The group begins trying to figure out how to get a piece of the Seal of Infinity from Zeth Seegmiller. Faylen muses to wonder if it was kept on him, or if he stores it somewhere secure. The secure location where rich people keep their valuables is a place that struck Faylen as rather strange - his father went into a cellar in his full on fancy clothes. The place seemed to be very small, and his father was there for a very long time. His father mentioned something about dwarves and gnomes increasing the prices. There is some sort of perhaps even a pocket dimension, even - the Hollow World is too accessible, even. He has also seen his mother access the same vault in a different part of the city.
Faylen isn’t sure if this pocket dimension opens up into one large vault, or if each family has their own pocket dimension. He also isn’t sure if the location shifts based on something such as the phase of the moon, or if it’s the need of a person - there is a level of having to find it.
Besso Tunnelly is sitting at our table having some coffee - he managed to snag the pendant of the occult off of Faylen’s neck. Faylen snatches it back indignantly. Besso asks how we’re liking the city and Faylen mentions that Jewel is his home, and he’s just glad to be back. Besso ultimately is here to offer us a job of the crime variety. Besso heard that we don’t like Seegmiller, and he explains that Seegmiller has been buying up precious magical artifacts and selling them or keeping some for himself and is spending way more money for specific things. He’s encroaching on The Highest Bidder’s territory, which The Highest Bidder doesn’t like.
Besso says that we mostly need to provide a distraction, and he will fully endorse any shenanigans that we wish to commit against Seegmiller. We ask what the plan is here, an Besso explains that there is a party coming that he’s holding. There’s talk about how to make this work and Faylen points out that he can’t be directly attached to any fights or particularly rowdy events that take place because his name does mean something here. They figure out that Faylen and Beitris can get into the party with legitimate invites (waffling over the specifics of who the Lord and Lady of the house are), and get Mary and Tabby in. Bosch will sneak in with Besso.
Note: the party is 3 days from now.
Visiting Beitris
Faylen knows that the best place to find Beitris is where she is training. The group watches her as she overtakes two combatants that she was sparring with. She notices Faylen in the process of gloating over the poor sods she just beat and waves at him, then comes on over. Faylen introduces her to the party and everyone therein, and after the brief introduction, he admits he has a favor to ask her.
He explains that the party for Seegmiller is coming up and he needs her help getting everyone in, since they technically have invites. It’s clear that she doesn’t want to, but Faylen mentions that she can wear one of her suits, and he admits that she can cause some shenanigans. She asks where her real brother is, because he’s so much more fun now, and she would very much like to keep this Faylen around.
She’s convinced and says she’s glad to help us with that.
Visiting Axamonar & Onabelle
We make it to the capitol building and Axamonar has his own office - it’s pretty small, as Sages are presumed to have their own spaces outside of the building. The office itself is surprisingly tidy, given who it belongs to. There is a stack of papers in the “to do” tray on the desk, and the wastebasket is made out of metal and is slightly smoking. Axamonar is looking at one of the papers and Onabelle is trying to explain something to him. He sees all of us and immediately cheers up, and Onabelle explains we’re the one that helped her with the train.
Everyone shares their greetings, and Mary alludes to our work with the Seal of Infinity, though we are unsure about if we can share this in front of Onabelle. Axamonar has us close the door and he casts silence so that nobody outside can hear us, and he explains that the Seal of Infinity is shattered, and we are helping to get the shards back together.
Mary explains that we are going to the Seegmiller party and Axamonar explains that he can go and keep Izoraxx off of our backs, which we are particularly grateful for, even though he didn’t necessarily plan on it. Onabelle is a bit shellshocked about this revelation, but ultimately resolves to help us.
Visiting Torchy
We visit the main office for The Jewel Herald. As we enter we can see sketch artists, wizards trying to quickly capture images, people writing, an editor yelling about his blood pressure rising. We find Torchy’s desk in the corner as if she was to be kept out of sight. Her writing machine is rather dated and rickety, and she’s clacking away.
Compliments for her article are given, and a small discussion is had over it. She asks what’s going on, and Bosch explains that there is a large party coming up, and Mary explains that we are going. Faylen clarifies that this is the Seegmiller party and she immediately brightens up. She is rather excited about this development and hopes that we’ll put together a rather good distraction for her to sneak somewhere new.
She produces a hand-drawn map of the first floor - simple, but much better than we have now. She explains that this copy is for us to have because she has multiple copies since they’ve been stolen in the past. She rambles on about how she’s not allowed to publish stories about Seegmiller and how it’s about protection, and she also makes the comment that many of the rich don’t like it when she writes honest stories about them.
Torchy says not to worry about her at all, but she can help get someone in or get them back out. She does admit that after all of this is done she would love an interview to write another article.
After
We do our shopping and preparations for the party, though this is more out of character and off-screen.
