Saving Taraaq’s Party

We come together in the morning and explain to Pyrisou that we need to save Taraaq’s party that came with him and they will get us to Sigil. Pyrisou tells us to do our thing and he will run interference so that we can actually succeed at our goal here. He recognizes that were he the one that captured Taraaq’s party, he’d keep them in a rather unpleasant prison.

Tarraq finds this all rather exciting as we set off: this is his first planar adventure. He’d done other things in the plane of fire so that he could just learn. He admits that there is a possibility of him inheriting a position so he wants to get out and learn so that he has real world experience. When Silver asks about a position then he brushes it off and tries to change the subject so that we can figure out the plan here. Silver asks if he’s a lord and Taraaq says he’s something like that.

We continue moving along and Pyrisou has an idea of how to get to where we are going - he’s calling in a favor and asks if we can play nice. Silver has some choice words about how she can be nice to anyone but him and Achille ultimately comments that we will need to gag Silver. She takes offense to this and Achille points out that she’s not being very diplomatic despite her reassurances that she can be quite good at talking to people when she wants. Achille comments that she needs to at least pretend to play nice and we all settle down.

Pyrisou calls in a group of rather unsavory people that will help us get to the city. Taraaq comments that we need to hurry as if he is found to have gotten out of his cell then the hostages will likely get hurt. Silver asks who kidnapped him and he explains he came at the behest of the Sultan. He thought they were discussing mercantile deals and there was some misunderstanding about a spy (which he didn’t know about) and so, instead, he was kidnapped as a high value target while the rest of the group was kept as hostages and he doesn’t know what’s going on with them. The last time his captors were here he was told that they were being kept alive and some other issue was being discussed.

Silver says she was kind of joking about the lord thing, but she asks who he is to be valuable enough to be kept alive in this situation. She asks if he’s related to someone, if he’s friends with someone, if his parents are friends - is it money or power? Achille comments to prompt if it’s both, with Silver agreeing it could be both. Taraaq asks if it’s okay to not answer that question at this moment. He hesitates and then admits that his father is the Sultan of the City of Brass.

Silver asks what we need to call him since he is of such a high position and he comments that this is not official in any capacity. Zimri asks if we need to do anything to hide Taraaq’s identity and he turns into a salamander. Zimri reflects how nice that must be.

A vessel emerges in this cave - a submersible of some kind, made of seaweed and reinforced with spells. Part of the hull opens by dissolving temporarily and out comes some sort of waterfolk such as an Azarketi or a Triton. They step up and speak with Pyrisou for a moment, and then Pyrisou asks us if we will be able to play nice with his pirate buddies. Silver say yes, we will, and Pyrisou admits that the pirates do not like the party since they are “from the material plane”.

Trouble During Travel

We board the vessel and are ushered into a chamber with air and it is definitely stale - the air hasn’t been refreshed in quite some time. Most of the people here breathe water and do not need air. Pyrisou leaves to speak with the captain to make sure we don’t get dropped somewhere in the middle.

Taraaq asks about Pyrisou and Silver briefly explains that he’s an asshole that was aligned against us and has kidnapped someone we’re looking for. He’s an old war lord that is unscrupulous and he made a friend rather uncomfortable and he makes her uncomfortable. She admits that he kissed Achille without his permission and so they got off on the wrong foot and they will not get on the right foot, per se. Taraaq understands and says he’s met people like that before - it’s who you deal with when you deal with politics and war.

Damaris admits that she will make Pyrisou disappear later and Silver comments she thought that Damaris was worried about Achille. Damaris admits that she is always worried about Achille and Silver admits she is too, and that she worries about everyone. She gives a wry smile and looks at Nymnar commenting that there’s numerous reasons to be worried about him. Nymnar gives an impassive glance and then looks away.

Achille says “Thanks Silly,” in response, mimicking her voice. She laughs and says that voice is disturbing coming from him and he asks if she’s the only one allowed to have any fun and she backpedals and says no, no, she’s not the only one allowed to have fun.

Taraaq comments that we have an interesting group and he seems hopeful. He comments that this will go well and Zimri and Silver both comment that this is bad luck and that he’s cursed them. They speak back and forth with Taraaq commenting that we worry too much, and the two of them comment that we are cursed.

The ship suddenly shakes and Silver says that this is all Taraaq’s fault. Pyrisou enters and comments there are some very powerful enemies after our new friend and he asks that we deal with the leader of the enemy forces (a small dragon) in a nearby cave while he conducts a naval battle. Pyrisou will keep Taraaq as collateral while we deal with the dragon.

He leaves and the shape of the chamber changes and we realize that it turns into a bullet and we are shot into the cave. We fall to the floor and there is a dragon within.

The Dragon

Someone comments that they will deal with this and then they notice us. A few witty comments are exchanged and combat begins.

Young Brine Dragon -

  • Strongest save FORT
  • Breath weapon: Acid
    • Has to recharge (1d4 rounds)
  • Attacks
    • Claw
    • Wings
    • Jaw
    • Tail

During combat, Achille winds up dying during combat. Nymnar gives him a potion to get him back up, commenting he owes him one.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

Damaris winds up killing the dragon by shooting an arrow through its eye and Silver has something of a panic attack while also remembering a separate time when Achille died. She stumbles back almost as if drunk and after Achille harvests blood from the enemy (and having bloodied hands) he approaches Silver to try to help and she falls to her knees in the water and starts screaming.

Damaris and Zimri take time to tend to each others’ wounds while Achille picks up the screaming and panicking Silver and carries her to the group. He sets her down and Zimri casts calm on her from a magic tattoo and they can hear her repeating “He’s dead” over and over.

Damaris kneels down before Silver and hugs her very tightly and Achille walks back over to the dragon’s corpse. Damaris reassures and speaks softly to Silver. Silver then says “I killed him” (in the sense that he’s dead because of her). Damaris reassures it’s not her fault and starts to say she doesn’t know if Silver has ever fought a dragon, but Achille has. At the word of Achille’s name she snaps in a spark of panic and she yells “He killed me!”

Achille comes back with the dragon’s head after Damaris asks what he did to her. Achille doesn’t understand what the issue is when he brings the dragon head over. Damaris asks what he did to her and Achille asks what she means and she asks what he did to her in a previous life and he says he doesn’t know. Damaris clarifies that Silver said that he killed her and he says oh yeah maybe once.

Damaris comments that she guesses this can just happen with these reincarnaters. Achille says it was a long time ago, and he was a different person. Damaris digs into Achille and it winds up being that his apology isn’t good enough and he needs to earn her trust back again. He understands. Zimri cuts in between this whole thing and pulls Achille away to look at his wounds and break up this confrontation.

Damaris has Silver squeeze her hand to make sure she’s okay and there with her. Damaris comments that Silver is going to need to talk to Achille about all of this at some point.

Zimri, while patching up Achille, stammers and comments that whatever happened in the past… People do change and he knows that Achille is a good person who has changed and says that he shouldn’t let this hurt him. Achille comments that good is a strong word, but he is trying.

Damaris notices a mark on Silver’s hand: a hand print of a child and a faint wave pattern. Damaris notices and jumps up to her feet (as well as a centaur can) and she sprints away to go pray. She feels better but does not get any religious benefit from it such as a deity speaking to her.

Taraaq finds her and comments the battle outside is won. He asks if Damaris is okay, and she says no. She asks if Taraaq has ever died and if he’d be okay learning two people next to him had killed him in a past life. He asks if they are trying to make amends and Damaris evades, and Taraaq asks if it was an accident or murder. Damaris gives a noncommittal answer meaning both. Taraaq comments that if someone wants to make amends then he’d hear them out, even just to be able to say he did. Damaris asks how you bring that up and if it’s too much to deal with, and Taraaq says we just killed a dragon: a lot has happened.

Damaris asks what she should do: she’s a danger to everyone close to her (taking a step away from Taraaq). Taraaq says he doesn’t think that’s true but he hasn’t spent much time with her. Taraaq says that if she were a genuine danger, she wouldn’t care. Damaris says someone can be dangerous even if they care and Taraaq says yes, but caring is very important. If it’s some kind of condition then it’s better to be aware of it and fight against it - a person doesn’t get anywhere by isolating away.

Taraaq gently guides her back to the group. By the time she gets back, Silver is sitting on the edge of a rock next to Nymnar, her legs dangling over the edge. She’s leaning against Nymnar and the two of them are smoking together.

Damaris calls Achille over and he approaches and asks what. Damaris says they have another problem and that she’s the problem. She comments she’s seen the scar on Silver’s leg and Achille asks if it’s the handprint. Damaris comments that she didn’t remember what happened the day Soldos found her, and now she does: she dragged Silver into the water and killed her. Achille says, sharply: “You did what!?” Damaris breaks down crying, unable to form words.

Achille asks who hasn’t died? It’s normal. Damaris tries to argue against and Achille says that there’s two of them in the party and that’s not insignificant. He tries to reassure her saying that it wasn’t her and that it was the curse, and she admits that she doesn’t feel safe here. She knows she’s endangering people. Achille suggests she just go talk to Silver because it’s ultimately her life… Lives? Damaris thinks that’s reasonable to talk to Sliver and see what she wants, and Silver speaks up and says that she thinks Damaris should say.

Silver gets up while saying that Damaris didn’t mean to. Silver gets right in front of Damaris and looks her in the eye. Silver says that she forgives Damaris, and she can trust her: they’re friends. Damaris stammers and says she didn’t consider the whole friendship part. Silver very slowly hugs Damaris. Achille leaves the conversation, quietly muttering his frustration that Achille apologizing isn’t enough but for Damaris it is.

Once Damaris is done freaking out, Silver pulls away and walks to Achille and sits next to him. Silver asks if there was more than one and Achille says no, it was exactly once. Silver comments that they were friends, and Achille says they were at one point - he remembers it slightly differently than her, he thinks. Silver remember asking him to not listen to the anger. She remembers some of this. He wishes it were easy, and she says it can be, he asks if it can, and she says no, but they can pretend for a while. Maybe if they pretend long enough it will be.

She comments that he no longer has to be the person he was. Achille doesn’t want to give her the wrong impression but he wasn’t the normal kind of angry when he did it. Silver says she knows, and Achille says he wasn’t his normal angry when he did it. She asks for the story and he asks if that will be good for her. She says probably not, but yes, she wants to hear it.

The party realizes we need to leave and keep on with our quests. We start to head back toward the submarine and Silver lags behind to walk in step with Achille. She says she forgives him. He says she shouldn’t, but she asserts she forgave him a long time ago. She may not recall all her lives but she does remember forgiving him. She says that he’s allowed to do better and he admits he will always do better than that. She reasserts she forgives him. He says thank you, but clearly doesn’t accept it.
