Silver & Nymnar, then Achille
Nymnar reincarnation notes:
I know that some elves reincarnate. I know that Soldos reincarnates and now I know that Achille reincarnates.
Silver sneaks out of her room in the middle of the night and stops by the kitchen to get a croissant and an apple for him. She offers the food to Nymnar, though he doesn’t immediately turn around from his book. Silver knocks on the bars to get his attention, and - a little annoyed - Nymnar turns around to find Silver holding out the apple and croissant as offering through the bars. Nymnar notices the croissant and approaches to take them, retreating and turning his chair to face Silver, sitting down to eat the croissant.
They are in awkward silence, until Silver finally asks about the reincarnation thing. Nymnar comments that he doesn’t know much, except that some elves do reincarnate. If he had to guess it is a divine thing, a gift from Corellion. She asks if Soldos is one, and Nymnar confirms, along with Achille apparently is one as well. It’s clear that Silver has a million more questions, but she doesn’t speak them as she knows that Nymnar doesn’t know much.
He begins to peel his apple out of boredom, and she offers him a knife. He comments that they would not appreciate this, but he does ask if she has a cigarette, and she rolls one for him so that he can smoke. She does ask him what he did to wind up here, and he explains that he came over with an organization that wished to establish a foothold in the material plane to take it over. A lot of people died. He got captured. It’s clear that Silver hadn’t expected an honest answer.
She was born with the silver markings on her arm, unsure of what they are. She’d been wearing a snood thing, but she removes that and a second set of ears that wiggle around. She starts to ramble about how they’re cool, how they are shiny, and how they get in the way of her tattoo, and she rambles on for quite some time before running out of steam. Nymnar lets her talk, and the two eventually find a calm silence and read together thought he night.
Achille comes down to find Silver asleep in a chair, book half open. He’s confused and asks if she’s been here all night. Silver asks if it’s morning, and it is, and so she says yes. She gets up and gets really awkward. Achille checks to make sure everything is okay, and then Silver takes her leave.
Soldos and Zimri
Zimri comes out and finds Soldos, who tosses a leather ball to him. Soldos says that this is something that will be helpful. He admits that Nymnar is a giant question mark: he will either be helpful and glad to be out of the cell, and if that’s not the case, then Achille has his axe. Zimri asks about the ball and Soldos explains that Nymnar has a heart (as much as may disagree with it) and Soldos explains that this ball is connected to Nymnar’s heart. Soldos explains that he hopes that Nymnar has changed and is better than he was, but if push comes to shove. He comments that Nymnar is a powerful necromancer and while he may have forgotten some of his power in the cell, he is still dangerous. Soldos admits that he would like for Nymnar to return and to have earned a room rather than a cell.
Zimri asks what has happened to put Nymnar in prison, and Soldos asks if his father has not told him. Zimri says no, and Soldos says that it is not his story to tell, then.
Soldos reassures that this mission is incredibly important and his friend will win, or otherwise make winning this far cleaner.
Soldos suggests he go talk to his father.
Zimri and Allegro
Allegro finds Zimri and comments that he’s glad that he still fits in his armor. The two awkwardly converse as Allegro comments that Zimri is going on a quest just like him (Zimri talks it down to “just an errand”), and Zimri comments that Allegro is going to go kill the emperor. Allegro laughs and comments about being the one to land the final blow.
Zimri pulls out a journal to say that he was going to chronicle what is happening, just like Allegro used to do. Allegro looks as if he’s about to hug Zimri, but he doesn’t quite make it, just say that this Zimri is perfect.
The moment passes and Allegro takes a few steps back. He says that they need to meet up when it’s all over and “compare notes”.
Damaris
For the first time in twenty years, Damaris goes to find Sylvaine. Sylvaine and Acrius were holding hands until she approached, and they drop their hands. Sylvaine greets Damaris and Damaris apologizes for disturbing them. Damaris says that she wishes to speak to Sylvaine before going, and Acrius awkwardly says that he needs to check on his gear and he needs to go speak with Soldos.
Damaris starts by asking about the feywild, and Sylvaine isn’t so sure about things such as the gravity. Damaris asks if she could give Sylvaine a little good luck charm, to which she says of course. Sylvaine admits she might have a small good luck charm for Damaris as well. Damaris awkwardly asks who goes first, or are they going to do a countdown. Sylvaine tells Damaris to go first.
Damaris pulls out a little package wrapped in linen and some colored twine. Damaris says it’s something that she has been told about stories of kelpies and she was doing some research and she just shoves the little package into Sylvaine’s hands. Once she unwraps it, she finds a leather strap with a pendant of a completely black pearl. Sylvaine admits that this is a good gift, useful.
Sylvaine grabs her own gift for Damaris: it’s a silvery broach with a symbol of Sehanine on it. It is a hunter’s broach: user can cast vitality lash cantrip. She can activate it to give her own weapon deadly d12 trait or fatal d12 against undead. She thanks Sylvaine and pins it to the outside of her bag.
Damaris says she hopes that this is a see you later and not a goodbye. Sylvaine hugs Damaris (awkwardly because of size) and Sylavine reassures that they will definitely see each other. Damaris says famous last words, and Syvlaine laughs. Sylvaine threatens not to make her go to the afterlife to kick her ass. Damaris comments that others are in danger, and Sylvaine says that is not the point: Damaris is her sister, and she cares for her.
There is more discussion with Damaris just about spilling a secret to Sylvaine, quickly (failing to) covering up with a story about needing a new farrier. Sylvaine entertains it while pointing out the absurdity, but doesn’t ask further. Damaris starts to walk away as Sylvaine continues to hug Damaris, being dragged along.
The Seeress Nuvira is watching them, commenting that it’s nice to see sisters getting along. The two of them agree, and Damaris comments that they never fight. Nuvira comments that she and her sisters never got along, and Damaris suggests she gets new sisters. Nuvira comments that she cannot go to see them anyway. She lets Damaris know that Soldos wishes to meet us in the most important place to him in the castle.
The Meeting
The meeting is going on in Soldos’s wife’s tomb. She was a beautiful elven woman. Her name (Euanthe) is carved on the tomb. There are slitted windows so that some light does gently filter in, with a stone bench carved to sit. Soldos spends a little time every day in here.
Nymnar’s hands and feet are bound, with Achille guarding him. The chains are sapping his ability to cast magic at this time.
The entire party winds up here one way or another. Soldos pulls out of his reverie, and he begins by admitting that he is worried about us, leaving on this mission. He hopes this is fast: into the forest, into the feywild, and back. Damaris comments that Soldos always worries. He admits that this is true, and he will always worry, and he may offer some advice.
He has a map for us, there are rations. There are some healing potions for each of us (including Nymnar). He says that some of the group is new to this, and we should simply do this and be done quickly. It doesn’t need to become a whole journey.
Silver asks if there is anything we can do to convince this person to come along, and Damaris comments that this friend knows herself and Achille, so if that isn’t enough then who knows what is. We also will have a letter of recommendation. Soldos promises he will not attack on sight - he no longer does this anymore - but he will ask questions, mention Soldos. He’ll recognize Damaris and Achille, may even recognize Silver. Silver nods in understanding, and she tries to play it off as cool, and Soldos promises to answer all of his questions once we all get back.
Damaris goes to Soldos and gives him a short hug, then leaves without saying anything.
Soldos tells Nymnar that the next book in his series will be here when he gets back. This makes a spark in Nymnar’s eyes light up and he (deadpan) comments that is very kind of Soldos to do. Soldos then comments that upon their return, he and Nymnar can then renegotiate the terms of Nymnar’s life, especially given Soldos hates having prisoners.
Achille asks why so many are going to take a letter to someone, and Soldos comments we are going into the feywild to the Forest of Empty Eyes. It should be easy and straightforward, but we will have to use our best judgement when we get there.
This is Zimri’s first quest, and Soldos thinks that Zimri will do very well.
Soldos recognizes that none of this is ideal, and some of us may not wish to go, but it is very important. Silver comments baby steps, Soldos confirms.
Before we leave, Allegro looks at Zimri and approaches to say goodbye. Zimri manages to awkwardly hug his father goodbye.
The Forest
Acrius Aquilius is the one that drives our cart to the forest so that we can go to the feywild. He has a sword from Soldos’s personal collection, but it’s not the most important sword that Soldos has. The sword is very important to Soldos. Euante, Soldos’s wife, had once told Damaris that in certain languages, Soldos means sword, and that’s because some people think he created the first sword, and THE SWORD is the first sword created.
On the way to the forest, Damaris asks Acrius what his intentions are with her sister. He chokes and nearly dies, and he explains that he doesn’t wish to make a promise he can’t keep: he doesn’t want to widow her before their life together has even begun.
There’s a back and forth where Silver and Damaris give Acrius a lot of shit about you may die tomorrow, or you may live, etc. Acrius eventually engages Nymnar in conversation and the two of them discuss the differences between the Material Plane and the Netherworld.
We finally make it to the forest and
Nymnar and Damaris both see a creature approaching calmly from one side, with Nymnar knowing that there are more not far off. We are pretty sure that the creature is fey: a bear-like body, tiger-like head. Damaris knows what kind of creature this is, and they are rather dangerous.
It greets us, saying that it is nice to have guests. Damaris and Zimri both bow to it, and the creature comments that there is a toll to move through our beautiful forest. Damaris comments we were go through to find a friend, and it says we are welcome to do so once we pay the toll. Silver asks what the toll is, and he comments he wants a pound of flesh.
