Session Start
As we travel, Rohan sneaks off to be alone at times and cry because of everything going on. Taraaq speaks with him and reassures him that eventually they’ll all be okay. Rohan puts his mask back on after the talk and returns to the group.
Iskra is watching over his sister, who is sleeping on him at this time.
Arythas is cleaning his armor and weapon at this time.
Dia & Inky
Dia notices he’s gone, but doesn’t do anything about it at this time. She is reading through Inky’s book, and he’s trying to get into her diary (not that she’s aware of this) in exchange. Inky asks why she wants to read about this, and she says that she wants to learn another style of magic and Inky equates it to learning a new hobby. He gets her diary open and reads through it - primarily going through the trauma of what happened to her brother, and then writing a bit about how she has a crush on Arythas.
They move on to making the spellbook. Inky pulls Iskra’s sister in on this and there’s an awkward discussion about how she can help, yes, but Inky is rather enthusiastic. They find out that she writes adventure books sometimes. They begin to create Dia’s spellbook in earnest.
The book itself is a hearty, light brown leather book with an imprinting of the Raven Queen’s symbol, then Dawnfather’s symbol, and an arcane sigil. There are some colors put into the etchings.
Iskra’s sister shows her spellbook - a teddy bear. (It’s a familiar. Among other things.)
Inky’s Sister
She begins going around asking questions of everyone, trying to figure out parameters for spells. For example, she asks questions about how much Arythas’ armor weighs (he responds to say light, which isn’t what she’s asking). She asks more questions and Inky chimes in to say that Arythas kills things with his hands (he uses a weapon, she thought?). Inky says well, yes, a weapon, but also his hands, and jaws.
There’s more back and forth about this and then Rohan returns. Taraaq suggests that he speak with his friends about what’s on his mind.
Rohan goes to Dia and asks what is going on and she admits she’s quit trying to figure it out. She asks what’s eating Rohan up and he says that we did well back there, rescuing another one of her brothers, so we should be feeling like we accomplished something. He comments that we still have the entire end of the world to deal with, and she says that people are helping us on this, and we’ve told Soldos and he has many people and she trusts him.
Rohan asks what happens if it’s not enough, Inky chimes in to say then we die. He continues to comment that surely we aren’t alone on this quest, so we aren’t the only ones working on this. Dia speaks up to say that we continue to move forward and spread the word, and reminds that her brothers are on top of this as well.
Rohan brings up his sister and Dia says nothing while Inky comments that she chose to stay. Rohan winds up exiting the conversation, Dia says nothing.
Dia’s Diary & The Mad Mage’s Notes
Inky continues to dig through Dia’s diary and finds the part about the mad mage. Inky grows excited as he reads about the mad mage’s book and the information inside, including how horrific it was but there was this one (1) useful spell. The diary mentions burning the book, and then says nothing else. Inky re-reads this a few times, refusing to believe that the book would have been burned without mention to him.
Inky asks if Dia would do it, then comments that he has a question. He says that the most recent things she wrote about (her crush on Arythas) - everyone else already knows that - and then Dia realizes that he’s been reading her journal. She grows immensely upset and talks about an invasion of privacy. Inky comments that he didn’t try to hide it or anything and since she said nothing, he figured it was okay. There’s a spat between the two for a moment before Inky gets back on the topic of the mad mage’s book.
Inky asks if this is real, if there were books that were found. Dia tries to back pedal and say she isn’t sure, who knows where it went, and Inky refuses to believe that. Rohan chimes in to ask Dia if she was not the one that told him to stop lying, and Iskra chimes in to say the book is burned.
It’s clear how upset Inky is: he curses in front of them. He asks why that was done and Dia explains that it was destroyed because there were only evil things in there, dangerous things with malicious intent. Inky argues that the magic could have been studied and undone, he could have used it to reverse what’s going on, but now he cannot. Dia argues that Inky is reckless and she burned it to protect him. Inky replies back that Dia’s the one that’s been reckless and while that is her choice, she cannot call him reckless.
Inky struggles to take this in. He refuses to believe this is real, that we would do this to him. He thinks that Arythas wouldn’t possibly have anything to do with this, and Arythas speaks up to say that he did, and then he apologizes because he had not considered reverse engineering things to stop what was going on. Inky goes silent after this, deflating.
Inky’s Dream
He dreams of being in the library, sitting across a desk from Mattai in her office. She’s looking through his resume, except it is almost a chronicling of events. Inky comments that the party had burned the book, and she agrees, and she comments it feels bad. She says that he might benefit from a change in scenery - perhaps he could move into the library for a while and have some distance - he asks if time is normal here, and she says that it is, yes.
She offers him a position here as an assistant. He might be sent to different libraries and archives to acquire knowledge for preservation. While time flows normally here, there are corridors that allow for slipping into places to save knowledge before destruction, essentially implying that Inky can go back in time to retrieve the book before it was burned himself.
He first considers going to say goodbye to his friends, then opts not to, and tells Mattai that he’s ready to do this thing.
After the Fight
Dia storms off and throws a tempter tantrum and destroys the latest few pages of her journal, then starts to write down what she can remember from the mad mage’s notes. It’s not a ton, but it is something, and Iskra catches wind of this and does the same.
Dia returns to give what she remembered to him, finding him gone. She whispers an apology and he comes in over the communication pearl. He explains that things will be okay, but he needs some time and space. Dia offers the pages she remembered and he asks if it is dangerous to remember, and Dia sighs and ultimately says to make sure to get some sleep. Inky tells her to get some sleep herself.
The Next Morning
Everyone wakes and gets the camp packed up. Dia had fallen asleep in the woods against a tree and Rohan had also walked off into the woods and Arythas is wondering why we’re putting up camp when nobody sleeps in it.
Iskra attempts to call Inky and manages to get him and explains he wrote down what he could write down and his sister will help make it more legible. Inky explains that he’ll come by to pick it up sometime, but he’s kind of busy right this second, and he needs some time away and things will ultimately be okay. Iskra tells Inky to take care of himself and apologizes again about what happened.
