Session Date: 07/29/2022

The notes for session 1-5 are going to be a little chaotic - they are being pulled from the abbreviated notes that are in my campaign journal because I originally took these notes by hand. As such, they only pay attention to what Calthel is aware of, and focus on the campaign shenanigans. There are additional pages for world lore and information that are separate notes. I’ll do my best to fit these in, but they’ll likely wind up being a separate section in the notes. Thanks!!

All of us live at or near Durkenford. We are meeting with Ealdorman Thinnulf. He’s the financial officer’s deputy for Duchess Bellicent, and we are here to investigate Skerry Yayek. It is early March, which means that there is constant rain and shifting winds - long sailing is no good at this time. April-September is the seafaring season.

Quest Details

The Duchess previously sent three tax collectors to Skerry Yayek, and they haven’t returned twelve days later. The lighthouse should have been lit on the first of them onth but wasn’t. We are to investigate and find out what is wrong.

  • 100g for each tax collector found, dead or alive
  • If we prove it was a shipwreck, we get 1/2 the reward
  • If the taxes are recovered, we receive 1/6 the taxes
  • If we have a satisfactory explanation, we are given a letter of recommendation to the marquis to join her court

About Skerry Yayek

  • Temple of Eight in town
  • Henge NE of town for outdoor rituals
  • Three accessible beaches
    • NE - safest and used the most
    • SE - boathouse and drydock for fishermen
    • NW - bat cave and guano mine
  • Biggest harvester of guano for spells
  • There is a tree grove to the east
  • The island is 600 ft up, with the lighthouse being an additional 200 ft
  • Expected threats
    • Bandits from Landbarrow (not an issue for years)
    • Aberrations from the sea, especially associated with Dagon
    • Wyverns are a possibility, but unlikely

The weather is 45-50F, cloudy, misty, and generally gloomy. The island itself is craggy and inhospitable-looking.

Arriving at Skerry Yayek

When we arrive to Skerry Yayek, we find that people are gone. We know that about 200 years ago, Duffholm was entirely depopulated without a reason. It was generally accepted that cultists caused it to happen, but that was never proven.

We first investigated the henge and found that there was a mimic inside of it. We recall that mimics show up near aberration/sleeping god activity. While they tend to show up near such activity, their presence alone does not actually prove that it is happening.

We move on to investigate the temple and found a strange blood red mist pouring out of it. We find the children curled up inside of the pews of the temple - it looked as if it was some sort of divine intervention to save the children of whatever happened here. We found a strange egg-like object in the temple brazier and shatter it, which caused a red gelatin-like creature to attack us. It became apparent that the creature had broken the protective spell over some of the children and was using them as puppets.
