With Kade
We all head back inside. Thereās a sort of numbness in the air, a delayed dull excitement that people are having to get used to: this is the first time that none of us in this place have ever been able to breathe and not feel like a gun was going to be put at the back of our head. There is a weight that has been completely lifted off of our shoulders. In this specific moment, we feel completely free: able to do whatever we want. As we are coming to terms with this, Kade does remind us all that we do have a job, and the world doesnāt stop for everyone.
Kade tell us that he has a plan for a concert next week, but due to some undesired media attention and a rushed cover up, he was only able to do so much. The venue turnout will be rather small: it will be an underground venue and event. Next Friday on the 13th we are to meet at an address - Kade texts us all with the details for the show. The password is: Samurai
. He looks at all of us and tells us that he will get a security detail set up for all of us at this time - the security will primarily be focused on the band, while the rest of us are more of an extension of Kade and the order he wishes to impose upon the world. He will point us in a direction and we will achieve whatever it is he needs.
Charley asks if we should have insurance, and Kade says he will make sure that Trauma Team will take care of us if thatās what we want.
Kade is willing to work with us as long as we are willing to work with him. Kade offers us a 2,000ed advanced if we pledge ourselves to him (selling our soul).
Soul Selling Options:
- Sell soul by the book and put two things from the book to install
- The next time you have enough IP to spend, you take one level of exec
- Politely decline the offer
Choices:
- Emerick: yes, option 2.
- Discuss personal journalism stories with Kade so that we can work scheduling.
- Saint: yes, option 2.
- All medical supplies paid in full. When the band needs worked on, then supplies are reimbursed.
- Net: politely declines.
- Sulfur: politely declines.
- Phoenix: politely declines.
Kade will put in an order for some ācomplimentary goodsā to set the party off right. He goes onto his phone and says that in half an hour or so we will have various foods and drinks and entertainment that we may want. He is going to go ahead and work on some other work and he will get with us in the morning.
The Afterparty (Everyone but Net)
Molly and Sulfur
Molly makes her way inside after Kade leaves and asks how things went. Sulfur explains that we all made up, yes, and some of the others signed important contracts. He mentions the party to Molly and she comments that it does sound fun. She points out that with Emerick and Saint signing employment contracts, it will really mess up with the plans for revenge tomorrow. The two go back and forth with Molly and Sulfur considering asking Emerick to buy them mercs (which Sulfur decides not to do) and Sulfur ultimately realizes that the plan for Saturday is chopped and he wonāt be able to do anything meaningful. He admits that tomorrow isnāt the right time to act and heāll figure something else out to exact his revenge. Molly is proud of him for being willing to be patient. Molly changes clothes and goes to get the rest of the crew and Sulfur goes inside.
The Party
Inside everyone is having fun, with Powder crying and being happy as she runs around. Sheās basically a kid that doesnāt know how to process her emotions and sheās feeling everything really intensely at the moment. Sheās excited and greeting everyone and trying to be helpful and happy.
Phoenix is talking to Emerick, showing him something on her Agent. Saint is freaking out as he realizes he gets a new apartment (heās reviewing the contract and asking Emerick to explain parts of it).
Ogre goes out to the garage.
Sulfur
Sulfur goes up to Juiceās office and starts to snoop around. As he looks around the office he snoops through cabinets and files - he finds a lot of documents and dealings. Everything was here and Juice was very old school. But itās all on paper, all of the text is in Russian. He eventually gets to the desk and goes ahead and looks around. He finds that one of the drawers is a false drawer and there is actually a hidden compartment within it. Heās not sure how to open the false drawer at the moment. He looks around and doesnāt see anything to open the drawer with.
He tries to force open the drawer but canāt seem to get it.
Emerick & Phoenix
Emerick eventually sat down after mingling and spending time with Seo. Phoenix joins me at the table and asks if I found anything about Juice and I explain the address and the warehouse. We look into it together.
Emerickās done some digging and heās found some information:
- A Soviet site put a listing on it 5 years ago. There are a few interactions on the posting (a public real estate page where anyone can post and discuss).
- There are plenty of Russian names on this site, and plenty of things written in Russian. Emerick doesnāt understand any of it.
- One thing is written out that stands out relatively clearly after diving down this rabbit hole - he only recognize it because of how closely he worked with Juice: There was a Russian document released about 2 years ago that went over a project known as Project Leviathan.
- Project Leviathan was a Russian human experimentation program to create Netrunners that are more effective, to create superpowered netrunners.
The address is where the project has been happening. Phoenix highly recommends that Emerick take this up, and he agrees as this is really in his line of work.
Sulfur & Emerick
Emerick excuses himself from Phoenix and goes up to Juiceās office while following Sulfurās sounds of frustration. He enters the office and sees it tossed about and Sulfur having a breakdown about a drawer. Emerick asks if heās okay and Sulfur explains the compartment. Emerick goes over and looks at the desk and finds a button to open the compartment. The drawer opens up and then an alarm goes off and a reinforced door drops down while toxic grenades drop down in all four corners of the room.
From the outside of the office everyone hears a loud slam and then the sudden release of gas. Seo is the first to stand up, look around, and bolt to the door. He starts to lift the reinforced door with Saint reaching it next and manages to help lift it up a little bit more. Sulfur grabs a waste basket and starts to shove the grenades beneath it. Emerick picks up the documentation out of the drawer, takes a deep breath, and gives Sulfur the mask before running the hell out of there. Emerick quickly recognizes the red folder with golden letters on it as a folder for Project Leviathan.
Seo goes in and starts to drag Sulfur out - Sulfur grabs the box with chipped paint on the outside and shoves some papers inside then runs out. We all manage to get the gas vented out and start our way downstairs as the party arrives: a flamboyant man with a neon mohawk and a synthfur coat walks in and comments that it smells awful in here. Charley starts to approach the man and Emerick actually pushes Seo forward to make him intercept. Seo is on it as Emerick stashes the folder of Project Leviathan in his room, reassuring Sulfur that heāll get a translation and send the translation to him.
Kade sends out a text saying Typhoon has arrived and we should spend tonight celebrating and living life to the fullest. Tonight is about us and we should have fun.
Net
Netās returned to his workshop and locked himself in, working on the van the entire time: he makes very good progress. He pulls away from the work to see the message from Kade. He gets a message from Emerick asking if he wants to join the party, and Net checks the time, then texts back that heāll be there in 15, maybe. Emerick sends back a thumbs up emoji.
Net sits in silence in his workshop for ten minutes before grabbing his jacket and riding out to a bodega to pick up some cigs. After he picks up the cigs and as he lights up the first one, there is a homeless man that is at the bodega that asks for a cig. Net pulls a fresh cigarette out of the pack and hands it over, then lights it with his fire tech finger.
He gets back on his bike and smokes as he rides. He makes it to the warehouse and walks in. Typhoon catches Net and lowers his mirrorshades saying that Net looks fuckin GOOD, and Net says he knows. Typhoon explains that weāre having a party to celebrate life, and he comments that Net could be doing him later.
The Party
Thereās a lot of real food and real alcohol, which we are all very welcome to try.
Sulfur
Sulfur is trying to go though the documents he did get his hands on, then tries to go up to Juiceās office to get into the computer. He fails the password once and then comes down and grabs two bottles of smash and then heads to the garage to sit across from Ogre. Sulfur tries to speak to him, commenting that yeah, parties suck. Ogreās sitting before a barrel fire and watches it, and itās peaceful out here.
Sulfur asks if Ogre has a name.
Footnote ā At some point when Ogre was able to talk after Juice was killed was a very deep, soft voice with a small southern drawl and very rough to hear due to lack of use, Emerick and Kade asked if he could hold onto the slate. Emerick and Kade agree and give him his own slate.
Ogre pulls his slate out and hands it to Sulfur. Sulfur manages to navigate the slate and sees that it says OGRE in big bold letters. Sulfur asks if thatās really his name, and Ogre just holds it there, and the name says Ogre. The slate has information including demographic information, what chromeās installed, health information, skills, and where Ogre was found. Heās 40 (born 2005), and he looks really good for his age. He has some EMP threading on his face, but he otherwise doesnāt look like he has any chrome despite the fact that he is packed to the brim with chrome.
Sulfur asks if Ogre wants to look into his past and figure out who he is - Ogre takes the slate and puts it back into his coat. Sulfur gives Ogre a bottle of smash and then asks if itās possible if Ogre would know the password to Juiceās computer, and he finally speaks and answers: with his freehand he signs as he speaks, saying that everything you could ever want is in the red folder. Sulfur leans in and asks everything everything, or a metaphorical everything?
Ogre says that itās metaphorical - itās what you do with the information within the folder to get what you want.
Sulfur glances at the door again then back at Ogre and sees Ogre suddenly towering over him and suggesting he absolutely get out and leave. Sulfur mutters under his breath that he is just trying to help Ogre out and suddenly the entire rest of the group hears the door get slammed through as Sulfur gets thrown through the door and lands on the floor next to Saint.
Saint asks what the fuck he did, and Sulfur says that he just asked a question. Saint comments that we need to keep an eye on Sulfur because he keeps getting hurt too much. Phoenix pulls a gun after telling Sulfur that what heās done wasnāt in Ogreās interest, and suddenly a very loud screeching noise sounds from Typhoon. This makes Emerickās ears start to bleed as he collapses in pain, and Ogreās paralyzed. Typhoon lets us know that he knows everything, and hears everything, and heās the first to report to Kade.
The party resumes. Emerick gets his hearing back some ten minutes later. As Sulfur leaves, the rest of his friends show up and he explains he was kicked out - Molly rolls her eyes and says this is typical of him. She says she is going to take him home so that he can begin to work up an apology letter so that they can all be the security detail because corporate backing would be nice for that.
Seo and Emerick
Seo takes Emerick to his room to help him recover from the whole ordeal with the noise. Seo asks how Emerick is doing and he comments that that sound is the worst heās ever heard. Seo offers him some pain killers, and Emerick reassures him that heāll be okay after a night of sleep.
When they first were employed with Juice it was a rough time - they were desperate, and they couldnāt turn down the money from Juice. Times were difficult. There was one time in particular where it was exceptionally difficult - a mission had gone bad, and it cost Juice a considerable amount of money. He had to plead his case before the judge, jury, and executioner with the entire band present. He somehow managed it. That was the first day that Seo realized that there are worse fates than death. That person doesnāt come around often and the fact that theyāve only been there twice is a testament to how bad everything is. Seo says that if Emerick wants to find them, then that folder will tell him where to go.
Seo looks to Emerick and says that heās all for Emerick pursuing his stories and writing the stories that exposes the truth and he now has the job and the band⦠Emerick needs to find time for himself. Seo doesnāt want Emerick to constantly go chasing after the sun. He knows how terrified Emerick is of them - he doesnāt have to pursue this lead now - but the longer he waits, the colder this lead will get. Seo says that no matter what, theyāre doing this together.
Saint
Saint gets a ride from Typhoon to the building with all of the corporate conapts. He makes it to the building and Kade is in the lobby, greeting Saint and asking how the party was. Saint says it was great and Kade was happy to hear that, then shows Saint around: thereās a gym, thereās a pool, thereās a nice outdoor track - small, but functional. Thereās also a spa. All of the services - the spa, the pool, etc - have a membership fee.
The complex is to die for, absolute luxury. The apartment is large, clean, smells great, has everything he needs. He goes to the bed and grabs a pillow and a blanket and then sleeps on the floor.
