The Tavern

We have not yet left the tavern. The Squire explains that there is an abandoned cemetery in the wood and those tend to generate undead from time to time. There are wights in a crypt and there may be additional undead now.

The Cemetery

We make it to the cemetery and there are zombies milling about. We engage in combat and kills all of the zombies that are against us - a few smaller zombies, a couple of brutes, and a zombie lord. We take a little while to heal up and recover.

We know that the largest building is some sort of a crypt and that’s where we should find the wights and whatever is causing this. We enter it and it seems as if it was maintained somewhat - the rest of the cemetery is in disrepair, but this building is not as much. The name on the crypt is the Embas family crypt. The name is meaningless to us. In the corner between two coffins is a hall. There seems to have been something that emerged from below and exploded, leaving a path forward below.

Marching order → Ria, Yuna, Killian & Rend, Opal, Valentine

We eventually find ourselves down in a ruined temple as we continue down. We would have to look around to verify the deity, but we don’t currently have the time as there are three wights before us. Combat begins. Through it, Opal realizes that the wights are guarding something specific.

We defeat the wights and Opal can tell that this was once a temple that is now destroyed. Opal can tell that it had collapsed fairly recently. There is a scepter that was recently destroyed as well, and Opal sits down to put it back together. As the scepter is pieced back together, there is a flash of void energy and the wights’ heads twitch toward Opal, and then the power dissipates from the scepter as the power fully dissipates.

Killian looks around at the ritual and can determine that the deity was concerned with the undead, so the ritual was about someone wanting to become all powerful and rival the dread(?) lord. It is about controlling undead and maybe, eventually?, becoming a lich. It might be connected to this family (Embas).

Killian recognizes this vaguely as something bad and should not be. This little temple is built beneath a crypt for a specific family, and they were worshipping Zyphus the Grim Harvestman. He’s the god of accidental death, tragedy, and graveyard spite. He’s not a nice guy for sure.

Opal tries to pocket the scepter and Killian asks what he’s doing, and Opal explains the power is spent and he can try to sell it. Killian and Ria both explain that they shouldn’t let it fall into anyone’s hands, and Ria takes the staff and breaks it over her knee, then throws it into a hole.

Hiera finishes helping remove the surface level void energy and we realize that there will be no more problems with the undead here.

Back In Town

We make it back to town and the squire is helping the priest as we arrive.
