Heading Out

We leave town with Dagon Bronzehelm to head into the forest to look for whatever it is he’s looking for. He warns that we may run into more than just wildlife: some magically-inclined people were traveling from one part of the continent to the other, and somehow their teleportation was disrupted. Everything they were traveling with was scattered all over the forest. He adds that he’s not sure how that happened (his tone implies it was him) and it’s a great tragedy (his tone implies he doesn’t feel bad).

Yuna finds the forest strange: the leaves are too green, the sky is still blue within - it’s all very weird. She asks why the “top” is that color, and we realize she’s asking why the sky is blue, and there’s a short conversation about how that’s just the color here.

Ria notices as we move north within the forest that all of the animals are gone. There are no birds, no insects, no other animals - it’s very uncomfortable. Ria mentions this as we continue. She eventually hears a steady clicking noise that is far too regular to be natural.

Killian is aware of old magic for clockwork constructs. He recalls that you don’t cast teleportation willy nilly, and these constructs could still exist. He brings this up to the group, especially after Opal explained what clocks were and how they worked. Opal becomes visibly nervous as he realizes this is something he can’t flirt his way out of if things get dicey.

Yuna asks if we should be friends with it and Killian says that he likes the idea, but not everything wants to be friends with us. She decides to try and marches off into the forest while Opal tries to talk her out of it. We come upon two clockwork constructs with halberds standing, with a level of confusion that appears that there has been no instruction given. Yuna says that they don’t look angry, and Opal stammers in nervous. Yuna explains that she’ll be the one to talk, and people love it when she talks.

She tries to talk to them and they shift their weight to be more menacing. She tries to convince them to let their weapons down and they don’t respond. Ria eventually tries to walk past them and they cross their halberds and stop us from progressing. Ria pushes one of the halberds aside and the constructs take that as aggressive action and combat begins.

We take care of them and heal up so that we are ready to move on.
